Product overview

The LEGO® Technic™ Small Hub (45609) is the programmable controller used in the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential Set (45345). It combines and controls LEGO Technic motors, sensors and other LEGO elements so that students can turn their builds into interactive, moving models.

The hub has 2 input/output ports, Bluetooth connectivity and a built-in 6-axis gyro. It runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and has a micro USB port for charging and connecting. Students program it with the free SPIKE™ App on tablets and computers.

As a spare part, it lets schools replace a lost or damaged hub or add extra hubs so more groups can work at the same time. It is intended for primary classrooms (Grades 1-5). LEGO® Education lists this item as retired, so availability may depend on remaining stock.

    Technic Large Angular Motor

The LEGO® Technic™ Large Angular Motor is a replacement or additional motor for LEGO® Education SPIKE™ sets, built for applications that need plenty of power and torque, such as drive bases and heavy lifting mechanisms. It has an integrated rotation sensor with absolute positioning, which allows precise control so robots can drive in a true straight line and return to known positions reliably. The motor is compatible with the SPIKE™ Prime Set and the SPIKE™ Essential Set. Schools can use it to replace a lost or damaged motor, or to give students an extra motor for more ambitious builds and robotics competition models.

    Technic Medium Angular Motor

The LEGO® Technic™ Medium Angular Motor is designed for responsive robots and mechanisms where loads are lighter and speed of reaction matters. Its low-profile shape makes it a good choice for smaller models or tight spaces. An integrated rotation sensor with absolute positioning supports true straight-line control, while tacho feedback gives accuracy to within one degree. Zero-point markings make calibration simple, and the straightforward form factor speeds up building and rebuilding. The motor works with the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime and SPIKE™ Essential Sets, making it useful as a replacement part or as an extra motor for more complex classroom and competition projects.

    Technic Small Angular Motor

The LEGO® Technic™ Small Angular Motor works as both a motor and a sensor. Its integrated rotation sensor reports speed and position, and it can also detect input when a student turns the output by hand, opening up interactive project ideas. It measures speed as a percentage of its maximum design speed and tracks both relative and absolute position in degrees. When coding in Scratch, absolute position is shown from 0 to 360 degrees; in Python it ranges from -180 to +180 degrees. A rotating disc output with a cross hole and building interface, together with Technic building geometry, makes it easy to integrate into models. The motor is compatible with the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential and SPIKE™ Prime Sets.

    Technic Distance Sensor

The LEGO® Technic™ Distance Sensor uses sound waves to measure how far away objects are, across a range of 1 to 200 cm with an accuracy of about ±1 cm. This gives students consistent, repeatable readings for robots that detect obstacles, follow objects or take measurements. Programmable LED "eyes" let students add expression and feedback to their builds. The sensor also includes an integrated 6-pin, industry-standard interface for connecting third-party sensors, boards and DIY hardware, which suits more advanced maker projects. Its simple form factor makes it quick to build into models and swap between projects. The sensor is compatible with the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime and SPIKE™ Essential Sets and can serve as a spare or additional sensor.
