Product overview

The VEX V5 Classroom Super Kit (276-7020) brings math, engineering and computer science classes to life through hands-on building and programming. Students can work at their own pace through standards-aligned STEM Labs, or teachers can integrate the hardware into an existing curriculum. The kit includes all parts required to build the V5 Clawbot.

The electronics include a V5 Robot Brain, V5 Controller, V5 Robot Radio, battery with cable and charger, six V5 Smart Motors, an AI Vision Sensor, four bumper switches, an ultrasonic range finder, two potentiometers and a variety of Smart and 3-wire cables. Steel structural parts are combined with motion kits containing gears, sprockets and chain, several wheel types including mecanum and omni wheels, linear slides, rack gears, a winch, lead screws, bevel and worm gears, cams, universal joints and turntable bearings.

These motion components let teachers demonstrate engineering concepts such as gear ratios and linear motion, and robots are programmed with the VEXcode software suite.

VEX IQ Robot Kit (2nd generation)

The VEX IQ Robot Kit (2nd generation), sold as the VEX IQ Education Kit (228-8899), is a single-robot kit that builds coding and engineering confidence for students in Grades 5-8. It uses reusable, snap-together plastic parts, so students can design, build and rebuild robots without tools. The electronics include a Robot Brain, a Controller, a rechargeable Robot Battery, four Smart Motors, a Touch LED, a Bumper Switch, an Optical Sensor, a Distance Sensor and a set of Smart Cables. These are combined with beams, plates, gears, sprockets and chain, shafts, wheels and connectors for a wide range of mechanisms. Students program their robots with VEXcode and work through standards-aligned STEM Labs, practicing engineering design and collaborative problem solving. The robot battery charges over USB-C in about two hours and lasts a full classroom day, and the kit can later be upgraded to the Competition Kit with the Education-to-Competition Upgrade Kit.

VEX IQ Competition Kit (2nd generation)

The VEX IQ Competition Kit (2nd generation, 228-7980) is designed for teams taking part in the VEX IQ Robotics Competition, as well as classrooms that want more building options than the Education Kit offers. It is legal for VEX IQ competition use. Its electronics include a 2nd-generation Robot Brain and Controller, a 2000 mAh lithium-ion Robot Battery, six Smart Motors, a Touch LED, a Bumper Switch, an Optical Sensor, a Distance Sensor, Smart Cables of several lengths and a USB cable. The structural and motion parts go well beyond the Education Kit, with additional motor shafts, specialty beams and connectors, and parts such as tank treads and offroad tires for building more capable competition robots. Students program their robots in VEXcode and can draw on STEM Labs, the STEM Library and getting-started resources. The battery and Controller charge over USB-C in about two hours, with the battery designed to last a full classroom day.

    VEX IQ Classroom Bundle (2nd generation) – Small / Medium / Large (5 / 10 / 15 robots)

The VEX IQ Classroom Bundle (2nd generation) brings VEX IQ to a whole class of middle-school students. It is offered in three sizes: Small (228-7755) with 5 robots for 10 students, Medium (228-8203) with 10 robots for 20 students, and Large (228-8205) with 15 robots for 30 students. The Small bundle includes 5 VEX IQ Education Kits (2nd generation), 12 field tiles, 16 field walls, 18 game objects, extra pin tools, a 5-port USB classroom charger and spare parts with storage. The Medium and Large bundles scale these contents to two and three times the quantity. With the field tiles, walls and game objects, teachers can run classroom challenges and STEM games alongside lessons in coding and engineering design. Bundles include access to STEM Labs curriculum, educator resources and professional development options, and students program their robots with VEXcode. Optional VEX classroom carts are available for storing the full bundle.

    VEX IQ Education-to-Competition Upgrade Kit

The VEX IQ Education-to-Competition Upgrade Kit (228-7597) contains every part required to upgrade a VEX IQ Education Kit (2nd generation) to the contents of a VEX IQ Competition Kit (2nd generation). It is a cost-effective route for schools that started with Education Kits and now want to form VEX IQ Robotics Competition teams. The kit adds two more Smart Motors, extra Smart Cables and a large selection of structural and motion parts: plates, beams, corner and standoff connectors, gears, hybrid gears, sprockets and chain, ratchets, linear motion brackets and rack gears, ball-socket linkages, shock absorbers, drop cams, a flywheel, tank tread and traction links, intake flaps, rubber treads, balloon tires, omni-directional wheels and plastic sheets. With these additions, students can design faster, stronger and more specialized mechanisms such as intakes, lifts and drivetrains for competition games. All parts are legal for VEX IQ competition, and robots continue to be programmed with VEXcode.
