Product overview

Snap Circuits® Explore Coding from Elenco combines hands-on electronics with an easy introduction to coding. Children build real circuits from snap-together parts and then control them from a smartphone or tablet using the free Snap Circuits® app, with more than 30 projects to complete.

The kit includes 30 Snap Circuits® parts, among them the Bluetooth-powered SC Controller, a base grid, snap and jumper wires, a battery holder, diodes, a lamp, resistors, switches, a speaker, electronic modules, a whistle chip, transistors and a motor. The SC Controller has five control outputs, so learners can switch up to five circuit paths together or independently to operate lights, sounds and a motor.

Projects can be controlled in three ways: real-time control, easy graphical coding and Blockly coding, so beginners can start simply and more confident coders can move on. The manual also explains basic electricity concepts. The kit requires four AA batteries and an Apple or Android smartphone or tablet, which are not included.

    Snap Circuits® Beginner

Snap Circuits® Beginner is designed to introduce the youngest future engineers to electronics. Children build working circuits by snapping colour-coded parts onto a base, with no tools or wires to manage, and in doing so practise problem solving and following directions. The set contains 14 parts that can be used to build more than 20 projects. Its colour manual uses diagrams created specifically for younger builders, making each step easy to follow. It includes extra safety features suited to young children, including the CircuitSafe™ protective device used in Snap Circuits® products. The kit is powered by three AA batteries, which are not included. In early-primary classrooms it works well for short, hands-on activities where children see an immediate result, such as lights and sounds, and begin to understand how a complete circuit works before moving on to larger Snap Circuits® sets.

    Snap Circuits® Jr.

Snap Circuits® Jr. is the best-selling model in the Snap Circuits® range and a popular way to introduce children to electronics. Colour-coded components snap onto a plastic base grid to form real, working circuits, with no tools or soldering needed, and the snap connections help ensure parts are joined correctly. The set includes around 30 parts and a full-colour manual with instructions for more than 100 projects. As they build, students learn about basic components and circuits, series and parallel connections, short circuits, motors and electricity, LEDs, resistance, capacitors and integrated circuits. The circuits are powered by two AA batteries, which are not included. Because each project is clearly illustrated and parts are reused across activities, Snap Circuits® Jr. fits well into primary science lessons, after-school clubs and learning stations. An educational version with student and teacher guides is also available from Elenco.

    Snap Circuits® 300-in-1

Snap Circuits® 300-in-1 (also sold as Snap Circuits® Classic, SC-300) expands on the entry-level sets with a wider range of parts and projects. Students build real electrical circuits by snapping components onto a base grid, with no tools or soldering, gaining hands-on experience in designing and building working models. The set contains more than 60 snap-together parts and a clear illustrated manual, also available online, with instructions for over 300 projects. Builds include AM radios, burglar alarms and doorbells, and there are electronic games that students can play together. Like other Snap Circuits® products, it uses CircuitSafe™ fuse protection. The kit is powered by four AA batteries, which are not included. With its larger project library, it works as a longer-term classroom resource, allowing students to progress from simple circuits to more complex systems and to experiment with their own designs. Snap Circuits® kits are used in schools, libraries, museums and STEM programs.
